I cannot believe it’s come to this, but it’s been almost two years since I was in Taiwan. And I still haven’t written up my visit there. It’s been a bit of a difficult post to bring myself to write (clearly) because essentially, the rest of the country didn’t leave a big impression on me (well, apart from Sun Moon Lake, that was amazing).

If I’m honest, I went about Taiwan the wrong way. I was even told as much before I did it by some locals. I stuck to the urban centres down the western coast, when the country’s best sites are mostly down the eastern coast. Allegedly there are natural wonders and beautiful scenery in the east that I would have absolutely loved, but I missed all of them. The decisions I made regarding my itinerary all made sense at the time… While I had a sort of ‘average’ time in Taiwan, I know that I need to come back again and tackle the parts I didn’t see.

The other issue with the time I spent here is that by this point in my trip, I was a little fatigued by travelling. Something that my five and a half month sabbatical taught me is that 100 days (give or take) is the maximum/optimal time for a long trip. Beyond that, things don’t hit in the same way. Oh, another airport? Another temple? Yawn. Obviously if you get to this point, you should just go home. But I didn’t. I kept going. Well, the important thing is, I went, I saw, and I was whelmed.
Anywho, in an attempt to just clear this one off my backlog and try to get back into posting on here, the remainder of this post will just be photos. Enjoy!
